Nigel DeVeth

Founder

Roc-Drill’s Founding Director, Nigel is an Australian drilling legend.

He was a Director of Straitline Australia for nineteen years, with varying roles including trainer/assessor, supervisor, project and site manager across surface and underground, ground support and civil works.

He founded DeVeth Drilling Queensland in March of 2008 and formed Roc-Drill in 2012. Today, Roc-Drill is an Australian success story, growing from its humble origins over a decade ago to become a national company with over two-hundred and fifty staff and contractors, supported by over sixty machines operating on multiple projects across the country. Norcliffe Mining Services acquired a majority holding in Roc-Drill in 2021.

Nigel heads up Roc-Drill’s Business Development operations, with responsibility for promoting the business and maintaining the future project pipeline, another chapter of his storied professional career. The values with which he founded the business, and instilled in its growing team, remain that for which it is known today – Integrity, Safety and Expertise.

Stefan Bassi

General Manager
Technical Services

Stefan commenced in the industry as a mining engineer in 2013, accumulating direct experience in drill and blast engineering, pit design, training and mentoring at Kanmantoo copper mine. Having joined Roc-Drill in 2016 in a drill support role, he quickly progressed to a leadership position within tendering and procurement, as well as undertaking project management for the rapidly growing North-West Queensland portfolio.

He was appointed General Manager of Roc-Drill in late 2018, overseeing our response to the Covid-19 pandemic and leading our recent, strategic growth. A flexible thinker and 360-degree operator, Stefan is the vanguard of Roc-Drill’s next generation of executive leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Mining Engineering with Honours.

Charles Massarella

Chief Executive Officer

Charlie is the Chief Executive Officer of Roc-Drill. He oversees the delivery of our commercial and operational strategies.

Across his commercial career in both the United Kingdom and Australia, Charlie has built a reputation for service delivery, honesty and integrity. He founded Mass Resources in 2013, growing it to become one of the region’s pre-eminent suppliers of talent solutions to Australia’s resources and construction sectors.

A commercial manager and outcomes focussed leader, Charlie is an advocate of diversity and equality that delivers positive organisational and societal change. His focus is on the measured deployment of innovation and technology to help Roc-Drill retain its position as an industry leader, while delivering strong operational performance. He currently serves as an Executive Director of Norcliffe Mining Services, Roc-Drill’s parent company.

Todd May

General Manager
Operations

A dynamic and driven mining professional, Todd entered mining in 2012 following his graduation from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Mining Engineering (Hons). His formative years in the industry saw him gain valuable front line experience in surveying, shot-firing and operations.

Todd commenced with Roc-Drill in 2017, becoming a senior engineer a short time later. His responsibilities during his early years in the business included drill and blast engineering, contracts and project management.

Today, Todd is our Operations Manager with oversight of all project delivery across the business.

Adam Gall

HR Manager

Our friendly and extraordinarily capable HR Manager, Adam is a seasoned Oil and Gas professional who commenced his resources career in mining, turned to the dark side (oil and gas) and has finally come home. He has worked in HR, operations and safety for supermajor’s including Shell, collecting valuable experience of Tier 1 providers and operators which he today deploys at Roc-Drill.

Adam joined in 2020 and has been fundamental to allowing the business to fulfil its expansion ambitions. A measured yet affable professional, Adam is a firm believer in the development of culture and behaviors as a key driver of commercial success.

Kyran Butcher

HSEQ Manager

Our globe-trotting head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, Kyran has over thirty years of experience working high-risk oil and gas, mining and power generation operations throughout the Northern and Southern hemisphere. His bank of work includes time spent in the North Sea, Africa, South East Asia and Australia.

Having started his career as a diesel mechanic and then progressed to become an oil and gas drilling service operator, today Kyran has transitioned into quality and competency roles that now includes Health, Safety and Environment as well.

Kyran joined Roc-Drill in May 2021 to assist Roc-Drill in gaining its ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 certifications. Adjacent to this, he and his team also commenced the transformation of our QHSE processes to become best practice.

Darren Roach

Area Manager East Coast

A born leader, Darren has oversight of all Roc-Drill operations team members up and down the East Coast. His twelve years in the industry have seen him develop from broom and bit sharpener onto supervision roles. A well-rounded professional with both front and back of house knowledge, his background includes Tier 1 experience as a Mining Coordinator, providing him valuable insight int contract management, tender valuation and supplier selection.

Darren’s knowledge of performance management and dedication to developing his team has seen him successfully build one of the businesses strongest and most consistently performing units.

Graeme Jones

Area Manager West Coast

An industry veteran with broad experience within Roc-Drill, Graeme has over twenty years’ experience in mining across roles ranging from shot-firing through to explosives delivery and drill and blast management.

Previously Roc-Drill’s Area Manager for Queensland, Graeme today oversees personnel operating in the WA/NT, a key growth portfolio. Graeme’s focus is centered around talent development, where he is quickly building a reputation for progressing people within the business through effective mentoring and coaching.

Robert Swan

Nat. Maintenance Manager

An Atlas Copco and Caterpillar alumni, Rob has accumulated a vast bank of experience across his three decades of mining engineering throughout Australia.

His engineering background has seen him enjoy a long, industrious career throughout all aspects of drilling – including parts and service management, capital sales, technical sales and of course, full service and production/repair. Attracted by the expansion ambitions of the business and its grounded appreciation for the importance of capital parts management, Rob joined Roc-Drill in 2021 and has taken the rapidly growing maintenance team from strength to strength during his tenure.

Scott Sewell

Maintenance Spt. East Coast

Another industry operator who has tread the well-worn path from Atlas Copco to Roc-Drill, Scott has sixteen years of both surface and underground drilling experience as a service technician and maintenance guru.

Scott joined the team as a maintenance manager in 2013, having previously worked for six years as a field service technician, workshop supervisor and service manager. Renowned for his ‘can-do’ attitude, Scott has consistently delivered fleet availability that has allowed Roc-Drill to build its reputation for meeting and maintaining contractual KPI’s.

Megan Taylor

Accounts Manager

Megan’s early career began in the insurance and finance industry, specialising in the commercial sector. She has over fifteen years’ experience with financial management and has supported Roc-Drill for almost a decade ensuring accurate financial reporting is delivered.

During her time with the company, Megan has specialised in Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Budgets and EOFY and EOM reconciliations.

She holds a current Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) and is a member of the ICB.
